New junior doctors will strike after crunch talks with NHS break down.

For the first time in 40 years, new junior doctors will stage a strike after their crunch talks with NHS broke down.

 

Medics have confirmed that they will walk out three times starting on January 12 over new contracts for Jeremy Hunt’s 7-day NHS.  24-hour emergency care will still be provided on Tuesday from 8am, followed by another 48-hour period emergency care from 8am on January 26.

 

On February 10, all doctors will participate in the strike, which will take place from 8am to 5pm.

 

Last month’s planned strike, which was backed by 98per cent of doctors, did not push through after the British Medical Association union and the NHS resumed negotiations.

 

However, Johann Malawana, BMA junior doctor’s rep, confirmed the fresh walkouts.

 

He said: "It is clear that the government is still not taking junior doctors’ concerns seriously.

 

"The government has repeatedly dragged its feet throughout this process, initially rejecting our offer of talks and failing to make significant movement during negotiations."

 

Junior doctors are furious at plans to rip up their contracts as part of the Tories' new "7-day NHS".
