It has been confirmed that Piers Morgan’s prime-time show has been cancelled by the network with the journalist admitting that the audience in the United States is ‘getting tired’ of him.
He said that he is now talking to CNN president Jeff Zucker about a new role for him at the channel where he is still in contract until September. However, he admitted that his brash British approach had alienated viewers.
Morgan told the New York Times: "It's been a painful period and lately we have taken a bath in the ratings.
"Look, I am a British guy debating American cultural issues, including guns, which has been very polarising, and there is no doubt that there are many in the audience who are tired of me banging on about it.
"That's run its course and Jeff and I have been talking for some time about different ways of using me."
Asked whether he would like to be the next Michael Parkinson, Morgan replied: "No. He might like to be the next Piers Morgan. I like Parky but he doesn't think anyone else could ever come anywhere close to being as good as him."
