Nelson Mandela is in hospital in Pretoria, South Africa, over a lung infection after being admitted at the weekend. The former President is receiving treatment for a third day on Monday, 10th June.
Reports from over the weekend have referred to a statement from a presidential spokesperson; who said Mr. Mandela was in a “serious but stable condition”.
He was admitted to hospital in the early hours of Saturday morning (local time). Mr. Mandela, who is 94 years old, is believed to be receiving treatment for a reoccurring lung infection.
The former President of South Africa, who retired around ten years ago, has been to hospital on a number of occasions in light of his health.
This relates to him visiting hospital on four occasions since December 2012.
Mr. Mandela was President in the 1990s, after being elected in 1994.
He spent 27 years in prison after being sentenced in the 60’s. Mr. Mandela was released from prison in 1990.
Mr. Mandela won a Nobel Peace Prize three years after this. Since he retired, he has not been seen much in public.
