Natalie Portman is set to direct her first feature film with an adaptation of Amos Oz’s A Tale of Love and Darkness. According to Israel Hayom, Portman and other two writers have completed the screenplay. It is thought that it was submitted to Oz for approval.
The report also claims that the Black Swan actress will visit Israel in September to search for film locations. The book is about the author’s mother who battled mental illness in 1940s. It also talks about his father’s attempts to help his wife.
Portman, who is expected to appear in the movie, has been plagued with casting issues. Reports say that Ewan McGregor is being considered for the male lead role after Jude Law and Bradley Cooper exited the project. Portman, who will play as Oz’s mother, is said to be looking to cast Israeli actors for the project.
