Former Sugababe Mutya Buena has won the rights to the bandÂ’s name.

The singer, who was the second original member to quit the band, is now listed on the official EU Trademark website as the owner of the Sugababes title.

Buena, who left the band in 2005 wrote on her official Facebook page: “I won the official name of the Sugababes now!!! I deserve this! I'm over the moon!” Later adding: “in tears feels like a dream.”

However, contrary to reports it appears that Buena has only secured certain rights. Her ownership is seemingly limited to goods listed under Class 16.

The EU Trademark website lists the singer as the owner of the Sugababes rights to “paper, cardboard and goods made from these materials, not included in other class; namely stationery, paper gift wrap and paper gift wrapping ribbons”.

One of three original members, Buena co-founded the Sugababes with Siobhan Donaghy and Keisha Buchanan, who left the group in 2001 and 2009 respectively. It is not clear if the ruling means that the original members could reform under the Sugababes name.

The current incarnation is lead by Heidi Range, who replaed Siobhan, MutyaÂ’s replacement Amelle Berrabah, and Jade Ewen who joined after Keisha was sensationally fired from the group last year.

They are due to release the bands eighth studio album later this year, with the single ‘Freedom’ out on September 25.
