Rosdeep Kular, the mother of three-year-old Mikaeel, who was reported missing last week but was found dead on Saturday, has been officially charged with his murder.
The mother-of-four, who was charged under her married name of Adekoya, appeared at a private hearing at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.
She is also been charged with attempting to pervert justice.
On Thursday, Rosdeep reported his son missing saying that he put him to bed the night before but woke up the next day without him inside the house. Mikaeel’s disappearance led to massive search and national media attention.
Hundreds of volunteers joined police and specialist teams as they searched for the boy on Thursday and Friday. He was found dead on Saturday around 25 miles away in Kickcaldy, Fife.
On the same day, Assistant Constable Malcolm Graham revealed that a woman had been detained.
No further details will be made available until the first public hearings later in the year.
Meanwhile, about 500 people joined the boy’s memorial service at Muirhouse St Andrew’s Church. Floral tributes, soft toys, and candles were places at a small park near his home.
