Mother of Baby P released from jail after four years

Reports have confirmed that Tracey Connelly, the mother of Baby P, has been freed from jail.

Following a second review of her case, Tracey Connelly, the mother of Baby P who was jailed in 2009 over the death of her son, has been released on parole.

She was jailed indefinitely with a minimum of five years after her son died. While the Ministry of Justice did not want to confirm or deny the reports, the Parole Board confirmed that a three-member panel had directed her release.

It said then: "Tracey Connelly first became eligible for parole in August 2012, and at that time a Parole Board panel made no recommendation to release.

"This is the second parole review for Tracey Connelly. The decision to release is a matter for the board, which is independent - arrangements and the date of the release are a matter for the Secretary of State."

Baby P suffered more than 50 injuries before dying on August 03, 2007. He was on an at-risk register and received 60 visits from social workers, police and health professionals for over eight months.

Connelly admitted the offence soon after she was charged. She was jailed together with her boyfriend, Steven Barker and his brother Jason Owen.

Barker was jailed for life for raping a two-year-old girl. The sentence carries a minimum of 10 years in prison. He was also given 12-year term to run concurrently for his “major role” in Peter’s death.
