Tim Cocker’s breakfast show has been axed and will be replaced by Chris Moyles, the former Radio 1 star who heads up a nationwide early-morning show. Fans will hear Cocker for the last time on Friday, after hosting the show for 5 ½ years. Gareth Brooks, who is one of the popular presenters, will also leave the station.
Meanwhile, Chris Moyles will be joined by Bolton-born Vernon Kay on mid-mornings, Johnny Vaughan at drivetime, and Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson on weekends.
The changes made several radio fans unhappy who took to Twitter to air their sentiments.
David Mulvihill said: "Absolute joke this is. To get rid of Tim and (Producer) Jim is bad enough. But to disband XFM completely!!! And to rub salt into the wound!!! Chris Moyles!! He's the reason why I never listened to Radio 1!!! I'd love to know who did their market research?"
Claire Fawcett said: "I love listening to Tim on the way to work and to Clint on the way home. It's like they've thrown in boring old Vernon Kay to keep a bit of northern at the station. I for one won't be listening!! Gutted."
Andy Syddall added: "I for one will not be listening from today. I'll be using my iPod instead. Awful choice of DJs, no more local links, and the DJs they're replacing are excellent."
