At the start of the New Year Britain has experienced much snow and consequent chaos. But now the UK is expected to be hit one more time by snow on Friday. Many parts of the country are to brace themselves for snow, but the weekend could bring rainfall.
With the onset of milder wet weather, there are fears that parts of the UK could suffer from flooding. This follows problems caused by flooding last year where many Britons were seriously affected.
Forecasters have said that there could be as much as 20cm of snow in parts, and that this could affect the Midlands, northern England and Scotland on Friday. Wales are also expected to be hit by snowfall.
And snow is expected to fall quite heavy on higher ground in the north-east of England. There are also at least 30 flood warnings in place for the UK as of time of press.
It is believed that the wet weather could set in on Saturday, and that the South of the UK could suffer. There are ‘yellow’ warnings in place for the South, including London, as well as for Wales.
One worry could be that following the snow, temperatures will be higher - as the rain begins to fall - and that snow could thaw out and cause flooding in certain areas.
There have been reported problems this week because of icy conditions, and drivers are being urged to take care when using the roads because of the weather.
