Moore scoops documentary award

Michael Moore has won an award for Fahrenheit 9/11 from the International Documentary Association.

Controversial filmmaker Michael Moore has won an award from the International Documentary Association (IDA).

Fahrenheit 9/11 shared the IDA's best documentary award with Zana Briski and Ross Kauffman's Born Into Brothels.

Born Into Brothels, which tells the story of children affected by Calcutta's sex trade, also made the longlist for an Oscar this week.

Moore famously decided not to enter Fahrenheit 9/11 in the best documentary category for next year's Oscars but the film is still in the running in a number of other categories.

An outspoken critic of George Bush, he had hoped that his scathing documentary would help persuade US voters to oust him from the White House.

Following Bush's re-election earlier this month, Moore said he was planning to make a new film to "educate and enlighten" the American people.
