Missy Elliott is set to make a film about her life.

The rap star, who is also about to release her latest album, is seeking writers for the project, funded by Paramount Studios.

The singer says she wants to make the film to tell the world about her struggles.

She said: "People can't even imagine what I've been through."

But she revealed she would not be playing herself in the as yet untitled movie saying the important thing was people understood what she had been through.

She revealed: "I don't want to star in the movie. People see only famous artists...But people want to know about the struggles."

The rapper likened the film to '8 Mile' which starred Eminem, in a role that closely mirrored his life story, saying it was successful because people are interested in what stars' lives were like before they became successful artists.
