Following news that Amanda Knox and her ex-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were once again found guilty of the 2007 murder of Meredith Kercher, Sollecito was reportedly caught trying to flee by Italian authorities. The 29-year-old was caught at the country’s border.
CNN reports that Raffaele was intercepted near Italy’s border with Austria and Slovenia. As he is not allowed to leave the country, police halted his efforts in the northern Italian town from Udine. He will be forced to stay in Italy. However, he and his ex-girlfriend Amanda Knox can still appeal the decision.
Meanwhile, Amanda Knox has said that she is saddened with the verdict. In a written statement, she said: “I am frightened and saddened by this unjust verdict. Having been found innocent before, I expected better from the Italian justice system.
"The evidence and accusatory theory do not justify a verdict of guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. …There has always been a marked lack of evidence.”
