Coldplay's Chris Martin has joked he contemplated committing suicide to make sure the band's new album is successful.
The singer admits he is so worried that people won't like the group's long-awaited third record, 'X&Y', he thought taking his own life would guarantee people would buy it because it would add an air of rock 'n' roll mythology to the recording.
He confessed in an interview with Britain's NME magazine: "Sometimes I think the best thing for everyone would be if I died. It's the only way to save this album. It'd add that necessary amount of tragedy."
However, Martin, who is married to Hollywood beauty Gwyneth Paltrow, says he would never really go through with it because of his baby daughter Apple.
He added: "I wouldn't do that because I have a daughter. But commercially it would be a great idea to blow my head off."
Last month, Martin admitted he didn't want to go on tour again because he was worried everybody hated his band.
The 'Yellow' singer said he was concerned no-one would go to the group's shows in June and July because they have found new bands they like more.
He said "We've been away for so long now and it seems surreal that we're going to play concerts again because I haven't met anyone who likes us for two years."
