Marion Cotillard to play Lady Macbeth

Marion Cotillard will replace Natalie Portman in Macbeth and will star alongside Michael Fassbender.

It has been confirmed that Marion Cotillard will play Lady Macbeth in Justin Kurzel’s film adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play. Replacing Natalie Portman, she will star alongside Michael Fassbender.

The film will be produced by See Saw; the same producers behind Shame and The King’s Speech.

Producer Iain Canning described Marion as versatile actress: "Cotillard has proven extraordinary versatility through her stunning performances in La Vie en Rose and Rust and Bone.

"Casting her as Lady Macbeth alongside Michael Fassbender will bring a fresh and exciting dynamic to the story of lovers pulled apart by war and ambition."

Meanwhile, director Kurzel is impressed with Cotillard describing her as "one of the bravest and most compelling actors I have watched in recent years" to Variety.
