Millions of fans of Downtown Abbey can now breathe a sigh of relief as Dame Maggie Smith is doing fine after health scare rumors. According to her spokesman, the actress is “fine and well at home”.
Health scare rumours have raised fears that Dame Maggie wouldn’t be fit to shoot a new series of the hit drama. According to rumours, the Emmy-award winning actress was admitted to a specialist cardiac unit on Friday due to severe chest pains.
But according to the Sunday Mirror, the actress underwent a series of emergency tests at the private Wellington Hospital in London and was discharged as her condition was reportedly stable.
Despite being fine and well, Dame Maggie’s future in the series is still uncertain, as she doesn’t sign contracts in the same way that many of her co-stars do, according to reports.
However, Lord Julian Fellowes, the series creator, assured fans that he will do everything in his power to keep Dame Maggie as part of the popular drama as long as possible.
He said, as reported by the Mail Online: “Dame Maggie will be in this show for as long as she wants to be and I can tell you that even if she doesn’t want to be, she won’t die, she’ll go to the seaside just in case she wants to come back.”
