A tartan-clad Lulu was among the stars who performed to close the Commonwealth Games. Singing her famous hit Shout at Glasgow’s Hampden Park Stadium with fireworks, she said: "Isn't it great to be here tonight everybody?
"Tonight is all about saying thank you so I think we need some very important people to come on down here to get this party started.
"Welcome the athletes from Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games."
As the 40,000-strong crowd cheered, athletes emerged from almost 700 tents dotted throughout the stadium.
The competition, which was dominated by England based on the number of medals won, saw more than 140 Commonwealth and several world records broken.
Meanwhile, Kylie Minogue played a seven-song set including hits Spinning Around and The Locomotion - which got the crowd on their feet, including Prime Minister David Cameron, First Minister Alex Salmond and the Earl of Wessex.
Mr Salmond said: "The overwhelming impression of Glasgow and Scotland's Games is of a job extremely well done.
"We hope we have taken the baton on for the Commonwealth and present it to the Gold Coast in fine order."
Mr Cameron said: "We say thank you to the people of Glasgow, the organising committee, the city council, the troops the police, the athletes.
"It has been dazzling, it has been wonderful, it has been a joy to behold and you have made the whole country proud."
