Lindsay Lohan has been sentenced to 120 days in jail for violating her probation, after she was accused of stealing a $2,500 necklace from a jewellery store.
At the preliminary hearing, the actress was also handed 480 hours of community service, which she is required to begin immediately.
However, the star only spent a few hours locked up and was released after her $75,000 bail was posted.
The Mean Girls actress will be required to work 120 hours at a morgue in Los Angeles and must spend 360 hours at a women's shelter in downtown LA.
She must enrol on both courses this week and complete the required time within a year.
The 24-year-old allegedly stole a necklace worth $2,500 from a store in January; an incident that was deemed to have been a violation of her parole for a 2007 Driving Under the Influence [DUI] case.
The judge said that she thought the star has intentionally taken the piece of jewellery and had shown poor judgement in not trying to return it until the police became involved.
Lohan will be appealing the sentence, although legal experts say it is unlikely she will win it.
