Little Britain wins again

Cult comedy series Little Britain has won two awards at the Rose d'Or television festival in Switzerland.

Student favourite and cult comedy Little Britain has won two awards at the Rose d'Or television festival in Lucerne, Switzerland.

The programme won golden roses for best comedy and best male comedy performance, and a bidding war is expected when American broadcasting companies line up to buy the rights to the show in the near future.

The series began life as a BBC Radio 4 programme, but like Dead Ringers before it, a television adaptation soon followed.

Written by and stars Matt Lucas and David Walliams, it offers a tongue-in-cheek look at social misfits. Characters include gymslip mum Vicky Pollard, paranoid gay Welshman Dafydd and useless transsexual Emily Howard.

The programme has received a number of awards since it was first aired in early 2004. In December, it shrugged off competition from The Office to win the best comedy award at the British Comedy Awards ceremony.

It also won two BAFTA awards in April 2005 and three Royal Television Society awards.

Other British victors in Lucerne include Max and Paddy's Road to Nowhere (Peter Kay), Zoe Wanamaker for her performance as Susan Harper in My Family and Channel 4 series Supernanny.
