Lindsay Lohan has been rushed to hospital after a terrifying car crash.

The actress was reportedly trying to escape the paparazzi when her black Mercedes Benz convertible smashed into a van in West Hollywood.

Lindsay and her assistant, who was travelling in the car with her, both sustained minor injuries, according to the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department.

The van driver reportedly suffered "moderate" injuries.

Lindsay's spokesperson, Leslie Sloane Zelnick, has blamed the paparazzi for the crash, saying: "This is another example of the paparazzi endangering citizens."

Immediately after the accident, the shocked star and her assistant ran into a nearby antiques store to hide from the shutterbugs before they were taken to hospital.

Shop employee Javier Ramirez revealed: "She was very upset. She kept saying, 'Oh my God. Oh my God. I can't believe it.'"

This is Lindsay's second paparazzi-related car accident this year.

In June, she suffered neck injuries after her vehicle was hit by a speeding photographer in a high speed pursuit.
