Len Goodman wanted to keep his wedding to long-time girlfriend Sue Barrett, 47, a top secret and got exactly what he wanted. The couple got married on Sunday at Mosimann’s in London.
Invited guests, who thought they were attending a quiet Sunday lunch, were surprised when the registrar arrived. Westminster superintendent registrar Alison Cathcart married the couple according to reports.
This is the third time for Goodman who at the age of 28, married his champion dance partner Cherry but divorced a few years later. He then had a long-time partner, Lesley, with whom he had a son named James.
Talking about his wedding, Goodman said: “I've had a marvellous day, and now my gorgeous Sue is the new Mrs Goodman.”
He said: “I wanted it to be a low-key affair, so we didn't tell anyone except my 96-year-old mum as I didn't want her having a heart attack with the surprise.”
Adding: “It was a complete surprise to my friends and family today and we've had a fabulous time.”
But unlike traditional groom, Goodman didn’t get down on his knee when asking Sue to marry him. He Joked: “At my age, no way! I made her go four stairs above me on the staircase so at least she was taller than me, does that count?”
