Mog on the Tyne, the North’s very first cat cafe, has opened to the public with more than 1,000 bookings.
Founded by Katie Jane Glazier, of St Peter’s Basin, the feline-friendly establishment, took more than a year to be built.
“It’s been fantastic – nerve-wracking and exciting but brilliant to finally open after all this time,” said Katie, 28.
“We might have been nervous but the cats are really calming and soothing – even if some of them do like to climb all over you when you’re trying to work.
“The cats have settled in just brilliantly. Nothing seems to faze them and they are a proper little family now.
“They’ve been here for almost a month so we’ve got them used to people coming in and out of the building.”
“We took more than 1,000 bookings in the first few days of the booking system going live,” she said.
“I knew that North East people love cats and the idea of the cat cafe but that took us by surprise, and we’re so pleased.”
Japan has introduced the very first cat café in the world and they’ve become extremely popular because city dwellers don’t have space to keep pets of their own.
