Patsy Kensit has told a newspaper that working in Emmerdale is better than starring in Hollywood movies.
The 36-year-old actress said she thought more people had seen her in the soap than in films.
Kensit, who plays scheming Sadie King, said Emmerdale had given her back her self-esteem.
"At 19, I was married and working in Hollywood, filming Lethal Weapon 2 with Mel Gibson," she told The Daily Mirror. "But you know what? I certainly wouldn't want to go back to that.
"The reality is more people have watched me on Emmerdale in the last nine months than any movie I've ever been in.
"It's certainly the most mainstream and well-received work I've ever done and that's incredibly rewarding. It's definitely given me my self-esteem back."
The star, who has been married to Big Audio Dynamite musician Dan Donovan, Simple Minds singer Jim Kerr and Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher, claims Emmerdale means people are now talking about her work rather than her personal life.
"Now, people are talking about me for the right things - as an actress, not as a celebrity and not just as someone's wife. That's a great feeling," she said.
"Being in Emmerdale has made me so much happier than I ever was working in Los Angeles."
Kensit was nominated for best newcomer at the National Television Awards this year.
