Kate Berry, the 46-year-old daughter of star Jane Birkin and Oscar winning composer John Barry, was found dead on the pavement beneath her fourth-floor flat in Paris on Wednesday at around 6:30pm.
It is believed that Barry was alone inside the flat before the tragedy happened. The police said that anti-depressants were found in her apartment, leading some to believe that she jumped to her own death.
Meanwhile, France’s culture minister has paid tribute to Ms Barry, who was a photographer with work published in Vogue and Sunday Times, saying, 'heartfelt and loving thoughts' to 'a family we all love, the French love.’
Aurelie Filippetti described Ms Barry as 'an outstanding photographer who understood the very meaning of pictures, staging, light and composition'.
Barry is survived by a son, 26-year-old Roman de Kermadec. Her parents separated in 1967, the year she was born in London. As a teenager, Barry seemed to have lived a troubled life. By 17, she underwent treatment for drug and alcohol addiction in central London. However, in 1993, she set up a centre for addicts in France. She also maintained close relationship with groups including Alcoholics Anonymous.
