Joan Rivers out of intensive care after life support scare following cardiac arrest

Joan Rivers’ daughter Melissa confirmed in a statement that her mother was on life support following a heart attack.

Comedian Joan Rivers is now out of intensive care and being kept comfortable in a private hospital room, it has been confirmed.

The comedian was on life support after going into cardiac arrest during a procedure at a doctor’s office, as confirmed by her daughter Melissa in a statement.

Rivers was in the middle of a vocal operation when she stopped breathing. She was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital last Thursday. Reports said that her condition failed to improve but now looks to be showing more positive signs.

"My mother has been moved out of intensive care and into a private room," said the statement from Melissa. "Thank you for your continued support."

Rivers, who is a native of Brooklyn, is one of the pillars of no holds barred stand-up comedy. Graduating Phi Beta Kappa from Barnard College, she played the comedy club scene in New York in the 1960s. In 1983, Tonight Show host Johnny Carson picked her as his regular guest host.

She went on to host her very own show The Joan Rivers Show and found a niche on the awards show circuit, turning her biting wit on the fashion failures of Hollywood celebrities.
