JK Rowling's crime novels to be adapted for TV by the BBC

The BBC has announced that JK Rowling’s detective novels entitled The Silkworm and the Cuckoo’s Calling are to be made for TV.

Harry Potter author JK Rowling’s The Cuckoo’s Calling and The Silkworm are to be adapted for TV as confirmed by BBC. Filming details as well as the number of episodes ordered are yet to be determined. It is also not yet clear when it will be broadcasted.

The BBC has already made a small screen version of Rowling’s A Casual Vacancy, which is due to be aired in February.

BBC director of television Danny Cohen said: "It's a wonderful coup for BBC TV to be bringing JK Rowling's latest books to the screen.

"With the rich character of Cormoran Strike at their heart, these dramas will be event television across the world."

At the Harrogate Crime Writing Festival earlier this year, Rowling revealed that she would write more than her initial seven Harry Potter books.

"It's not seven. It's more. It's pretty open ended," she said.

Rowling expanded out of fantasy by writing The Cuckoo’s Calling under a male pseudonym last year. Following the revelation, the book instantly made it to the bestseller’s list, three months after publication.
