Emmerdale is set to be rocked by family violence as Jack Sugden is shot by his son.
Jack is shot by son Andy, who is incensed after his wife, Katie, ditches him for his brother Robert.
Andy resolves to kill Robert, but his crime of passion goes awry and dad Jack is shot in the chest instead.
"Andy is devastated when Katie leaves him for his brother Robert and decides to murder his rival. Robert and Katie move into a caravan, so Andy lies in wait with his shotgun," a show insider revealed to The Sun.
"He fires as the door opens, thinking it's Robert. But he's horrified when he realises he's shot his own father.
"Jack is rushed into intensive care, while Andy is arrested for what police believe will soon become murder. Doctors say that there's little hope for Jack's survival."
Katie, played by Sammy Winward, is set to quit the marital bed for Robert next month. Andy's bloody revenge will be screened on May 18th.
Andy has already killed his mother in an accident. Jack has been a regular on the soap for 24 years and is played by Clive Hornby.
Officials from the soap have confirmed the shooting, but have remained tight-lipped on whether Jack lives.
