iPad Air 2 takes off: Apple release 'the world's thinnest tablet'

iPad Air 2 is arguably all about minor refinements rather than revolution.

Apple has released iPad Air 2 – a device that they claim is the world’s thinnest tablet. The re-energised flagship product boasts similar features and design as the newly released iPhone 6 and 6 Plus featuring brushed aluminum back and Touch ID fingerprint reader.

Apple has managed the to reduce the thickness of the device to just 6.1mm, compared to the original’s 7.5mm, making it 32 grams lighter. Aside from its striking slimness, the other great feature is perhaps the reduced glare on the device screen. 

Mirror Online's Kevin Lynch said: “This should make for a much better experience when using the iPad when out in daylight, and may ultimately lessen the argument for dedicated e-readers like Amazon’s monochrome Kindle devices.”

Elsewhere, high-end, real-time photo and video editing demos showed that the device’s A8X chip coupled with the Metal graphics engine means its able to make mincemeat of pro-level processing demands.

iPad Mini 3 was also launched featuring Touch ID sensor and three different finishes (space grey, silver, and now god). Just like iPad Mini 2, it runs the same A7 processor. Also, it is still 7.55mm thin.
