On Thursday, police said that a black Infiniti sedan driven by a woman rammed security fencing at the outer perimeter of the White House.
Police vehicles immediately chased the car down Constitution Avenue just outside the Capitol. Footages show that the driver managed to escape even when she was surrounded by the police at one point.
Images also showed police officers pointing guns at the vehicle before the driver rammed a Secret Service vehicle.
Police say that it was neither an act of terrorism nor an accident. However, the incident is still unclear. For this reason, an investigation is now underway.
Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy Lanier confirmed that the woman was shot on a nearby street. Meanwhile, the two injured officers are expected to make a full recovery.
Directly after the incident, the police and the FBI searched a house in Stamford Connecticut, which is believed to be the woman’s home.
Meanwhile, The Washington Post, quoted law enforcement officials who said that the car was registered to a 34-year-old mother. It is believed that the child was in the car during the incident.
