The married man accused of enjoying a steamy clinch with Cameron Diaz has posted an internet message saying their kiss was just an innocent goodbye embrace.

MTV producer Shane Nickerson was pictured locking lips with the 'Charlie's Angels' beauty, who is engaged to pop heartthrob Justin Timberlake, outside a Los Angeles studio last week.

But Shane insists it was an innocent kiss after a day filming her new wildlife show 'Trippin''.

He said: "Me and my wife joked about something like this when I started the job. How funny would it be if you end up in a paparazzi picture with her and the tabloids say 'Cameron's new man!'"

Rumours were ignited when America's National Enquirer magazine printed the photo.

Cameron immediately branded the allegations "false and salacious".

Her spokesman Brad Cafarelli said last week: "This is a case of a tabloid colluding with the stalkerazzi in an attempt to distort the truth and mislead the public with their false and salacious story.

"Shane is a friend and associate of Cameron's and works with her on her MTV show. There is absolutely no romantic relationship between them whatsoever, contrary to these sad, mean-spirited attempts to create drama where none exists."

Diaz is now taking legal action over the claims.
