IKEA, the world's largest furniture retailer, has confirmed plans to donate £512 store credit to all Syrian refugees that are expected to arrive in Iceland next month. The Scandinavian furniture store may also offer them with jobs.
CEO Þórarinn Ævarsson said that the action was part of a greater effort by the company to assist refugees as they adjust to their new life in Iceland. He added that IKEA has a positive attitude towards diversity and employs about 100 individuals from abroad.
He added: “Those are some of our very best people and we couldn’t run the company if it weren’t for the contribution of those individuals.
"We want them to do well within the company, which is why we offer all employees free Icelandic lessons during work hours, but the key to moving up is being able to master the language.”
