Cult sketch show Little Britain walked away with three gongs at the 15th British Comedy Awards last night.
The BBC show won the best TV comedy award and got the viewers' vote in the form of the people's choice award.
Creators Matt Lucas and David Walliams also jointly won the best TV comedy actor award for their portrayal of some of Britain's strangest characters.
The show trumped that other cult show The Office on both the best comedy and best comedy actor awards, but creator Ricky Gervais was given a special writing award.
After receiving the best comedy award, Mr Walliams said: "It was a real shock but I don't think we deserved to beat The Office which is a great show and more than just a comedy. It's a beautiful piece of work."
Veteran presenting duo Ant and Dec also did well on the night, receiving the best comedy entertainment personality award for their multiple appearances on the small screen this year.
The pair, who started life on Geordie teen soap Byker Grove, also walked away with the award for best comedy entertainment programme for Saturday Night Takeaway.
Caroline Quentin won best TV comedy actress for her roles in Life Begins and Von Trapped in the ceremony hosted by Jonathan Ross at the ITV headquarters in London.
Best comedy newcomer went to Catherine Tate of BBC Two's The Catherine Tate Show over James McAvoy from Shameless and Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding from The Mighty Boosh.
BBC Three's Nighty Night won best new TV comedy of 2004 and Springfield's favourite family The Simpsons won best international comedy show.
Simpsons' creator Matt Groening was also presented with an outstanding contribution award from scientist Stephen Hawking, who is one of many celebrities to have appeared in the series.
School of Rock, starring Jack Black, won best comedy film ahead of Shaun of the Dead and Shrek 2.
