Superstar Beyonc has revealed that she is expecting a child with her rapper husband, Jay-Z.

The If I Were a Boy singer debuted her baby bump in a long orange gown at the MTV Music Video awards on 29 August, before declaring to the press:

"I have a surprise!"

However, the 29-year-old did not let her announcement prevent her from performing, with her energetic rendition on Love on Top earning her a standing ovation from the audience.

The proud mum-to-be then unzipped her jacket and rubbed her baby bump, telling the cheering crowd:

"Tonight, I want you to stand up on your feet. I want you to feel the love that's growing inside me!"

Earlier this month, Beyonc said in an interview that she was ready to dedicate herself to raising a family, revealing:

"Now I'm a woman, and because I gave it my all, I can focus on my marriage. I can decide I want to have kids. I can be the mother I want to be and dedicate myself to my children."

She also dropped hints in an interview with Piers Morgan back in June, saying:

"I always said I was going to have a baby at 30. I'm 29 now.

"But I also said I was going to retire at 30. So I don't know."

It will be the first child for the singer and her husband, Jay-Z, who married in April 2008.
