How to keep the whole family happy this summer

With school holidays in full swing and the ever-present credit crunch hanging overhead, Britain's children will be spending less hours with their parents and reduced time playing outside, according to a new study.

Research conducted by Kellogg's revealed that two thirds of parents believe the economic downturn has had an affect on family life, and reductions have been made across the board in spend on toys, games and sporting equipment for kids.

In addition, a third of parents blame a lack of money as the reasons why their children will spend more time indoors this summer.  

Family days out and trips to attractions such as the zoo and theme parks have also been badly hit.

The parents surveyed admitted that four in 10 planned excursions have been put on ice and because they're working longer hours to demonstrate commitment to employers, less time will be spent with the children compared to just a year ago.

At the best of times the summer holidays can be tough for families, but just because the nation is feeling the pinch it doesn't mean that family fun has to be sacrificed.
