For a lot of people, fitting exercise into their busy lifestyle and ultra hectic schedule seems impossible. Vavista physiotherapist Claire Treen offers her six top tips to get you moving.
1. Exercise for fun. Find exercise that you enjoy. If you’d rather skip the gym, you can go swimming, do some brisk walking, or take a hike with friends.
2. Every exercise counts. Doing small amount of exercise on a regularly basis, such as taking short walks at lunch time and using the stairs instead of lifts, for example, can make a difference. If you are able to make this part of your routine, you’ll easily get closer and closer to realising your fitness goals.
3. Make it social. Exercising with friends, family members, and acquaintances is proven to be more fun than doing it alone. It is also great for your mental wellbeing.
4. Alone time. Have time for yourself where you’ll get the chance to clear your head and be creative.
5. Go back to sports that you used to love. If you used to play sports but have not given it a thought from some time, consider checking out sports club that offer short courses.
6. Enjoy the outdoors. You can save while exercising by simply enjoying the outdoors more. Instead of driving to short distances, take a walk or ride a bike. Not only are these free but they can also improve concentration and help you sleep better.
