How much a pint of beer costs all over Britain

According to a survey by The Good Pub Guide 2010, Surrey pub-goers are shelling out more than anywhere else in Britain for a pint of beer.

The southern county demands an average of £3.01 for a pint. But moving up, those lucky enough to find their local in the West Midlands are treated to the UK's cheapest pints at an average of £2.37.

The national average is £2.68 (up 10p from the previous year), while the capital of England sees Londoners fork out £2.89.

Alisdair Aird, the co-editor of the annual guide, said: "It's all too easy now to go to the bar, buy a round and find out that your £20 has completely disappeared.

"We think the influence of the big pub companies is analogous to the big brewers before they were broken up in the 1980s. When they put up their prices all the pubs in the area tend to follow suit. And the pub companies have a bigger presence in Surrey than most other places."

 The Guide named the Bell & Cross at Holy Cross in Worcestershire as its Pub of the Year 2010, praising its delightful atmosphere and series of small, different rooms. Aird stated: "You end up thinking, 'gosh, they really want me here'".
