HollywoodÂ’s hottest couple Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds are to divorce, it has been confirmed.

In a joint statement, they said: “After long and careful consideration on both our parts, we've decided to end our marriage.

“We entered our relationship with love and it's with love and kindness we leave it. While privacy isn't expected, it's certainly appreciated.”

The pair, whose relationship has been one that took place very much behind closed doors, became engaged in 2008 before marrying in an intimate ceremony in Canada the same year.

According to reports, it was 26-year-old Johansson who initiated the split, after becoming aggrieved at the amount of time they spent apart.

Recently, 36-year-old Reynolds said that marriage had ‘changed’ him and made him more guarded about letting the world know about their relationship.

The actor, who once was engaged to Alanis Morissette, was recently crowned the Sexiest Man Alive by People magazine. Johansson, meanwhile, regularly tops the hottest woman lists.
