Honda is to recall a further 4.5 million vehicles globally over Takata airbag, which inefficiency has claimed eight lives. The company recalls now include 24.5million vehicles worldwide while the number of cars from all makers with the same Takata airbag problem reached 40million.
Takata, the airbag maker, is now responsible for the largest vehicle recall in history.
Honda’s new CEO, Takahiro Hachigo, has previously said that he had no plans to help Takata fund recalls.
Last month, Honda has confirmed that a woman died in Los Angeles after the airbag in a 2011 Honda Civic exploded, firing metal shrapnel at her. The victim, Jewel Brangman, is the eight casualty of faulty Takata airbags.
Takata faces multiple class-action lawsuits in the United States and Canada as well as an American criminal investigation and a regulatory probe.
Honda’s share prices dropped by 0.64per cent following the news.
