Disabled granddad Mark Hampson risked his life to stop a escaping thief although he knew he could be killed by a single punch.
The 51-year-old stopped a thief who snatched the bag of a hairdresser and forced the crook to hand it back despite being threatened.
Mark said: "I'd just come out of the house and I heard someone screaming 'stop him'.
"I saw a lad running down the road and he put his hand up to punch me.
"I didn't really think about what I was doing at first but when it got to a stand off I thought I can't get in a fight.
"He could have just blown me over but he didn't know that, he thought I was prepared to fight.
"I'd do the same again but I wouldn't say it was brave, just instinct."
Mark was seriously injured in 2012 when he got involved into a car crash. He had undergone several operations and is now waiting for major surgery to have plates inserted into his chest to support his breastbone. The accident left him registered disabled because he cannot walk far or work.
