Harrison Ford, who was filming at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire last night, was airlifted to hospital after he broke an ankle when a prop from the Millenium Falcon spaceship fell on to him.
According to reports, the actor clutched his chest in pain as the crew tried to free him from underneath a hydraulic door. He was immediately flown to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, which specialises in fractures.
Producers and the film crew are expecting Ford to take some time to recover and are now hastily rescheduling shoots.
A source told The Mirror: 'Harrison was hit by the door and looked in a bad way and was clutching his chest when he was on the stretcher.’
Meanwhile, a spokesman for Thames Valley Police confirmed that officers were called to the scene of the accident.
Meanwhile, the Health and Safety executive are investigating the accident. A spokesperson said: ‘We have been made aware of an incident at Pinewood studios and are making initial enquiries.’
Disney, the film’s producing studio has released a statement, saying: ‘Harrison Ford sustained an ankle injury during filming today on the set of Star Wars: Episode VII.’
‘He was taken to a local hospital and is receiving care. Shooting will continue as planned while he recuperates.’
