Shakespeare In Love and Iron Man actress Gwyneth Paltrow and partner Chris Martin of rock band Coldplay have announced that they will separate.
Posting Paltrow's blog Goop, the couple stated that their hearts are "full of sadness" but they still "love each other very much" and "coparent" their two children Apple and Moses.
The full statement read: "It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate.
"We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate.
"We are, however, and always will be a family, and in many ways we are closer than we have ever been.
"We are parents first and foremost, to two incredibly wonderful children and we ask for their and our space and privacy to be respected at this difficult time.
"We have always conducted our relationship privately, and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and coparent, we will be able to continue in the same manner.
Love,
Gwyneth & Chris"
The post was then followed with an analysis by Dr. Habib Sadeghi & Dr. Sherry Sami on the subject of 'Conscious Uncoupling' that ponders "when the whole concept of marriage and divorce is reexamined, there’s actually something far more powerful—and positive—at play".
Paltrow recently denied reported affairs including one with supermodel Elle Macpherson's billionaire husband Jeff Soffer and another with lawyer Kevin Yorn. However, the star also previously stated "Life is complicated and long and I know people that I respect and admire and look up to who have had extra-marital affairs"
A notoriously private couple, they wed in a secret ceremony in Mexico in December 2003 and avoided being photographed together thereafter.
