A survey conducted by The Baby Show, UK’s leading pregnancy and parenting event, has revealed that UK grandparents are more generous than ever when it comes to their unborn grandchildren.
According to the survey, grandparents spend about £809.00 even before the baby is born. Popular items they buy include; car seat, pram, cot, and other nursery furniture. The amount is more than what the average mum and dad would spend on their own kids.
It was also found that grandparents do not stop helping their offspring after the baby is born. Around 10.4million pensioners offer some form of regular childcare. Also, it is thought that grandparents often help out during significant events, like getting married or buying a car.
Nicole Muller, Show Director for The Baby Show, said: “Expectant grandparents, excited by the prospect of a new grandson or granddaughter, seem more willing than ever to help out financially and ensure the new addition to the family has the very best start in life.”
“We already know that grandparents are playing an ever greater role in helping us to bring up our children, but this research shows that a grandparent’s contribution begins even earlier than we thought.”
The Baby Show, whose website is thebabyshow.co.uk, recently returned to ExCeL in London from 22nd to 24th February, 2013.
