Italian firm Luxottica, the maker of Ray-Ban sunglasses, has confirmed a partnership with Google on Monday for the latter’s smart glasses product.
In a statement, the Italian firm confirmed that as a part of the strategic partnership, they will design, develop, and distribute a new kind of eyewear for Google Glass.
This is a stamp-sized screen attached to a pair of eyeglass frames. It has the capability to record video, access email, and retrieve information from the web by connecting wirelessly to a user’s mobile phone.
Luxottica chief executive officer Andrea Guerra said: "We believe that a strategic partnership with a leading player like Google is the ideal platform for developing a new way forward in our industry and answering the evolving needs of consumers on a global scale.”
Luxottica also confirmed that their two major brands, Ray-Ban and Oakley, would be part of the deal with Google.
