The Social Network and Glee honoured at awards...

The Social Network and Glee were among the big winners at the 68th Golden Globe awards.

The film about the creation of social networking site, Facebook, and the US television show based around a school choir, dominated the awards, but a few British names were also honoured.

Colin Firth was named best actor in a drama for his role in The King's Speech and Christian Bale won best supporting actor for his film, The Fighter.

However, it was Glee and The Social Network that stole the show.

The former won best TV musical or comedy and two of its stars, Jane Lynch and Chris Colfer, won best supporting actor and actress awards.

The Social Network was named best film drama and won additional prizes for best director, best screenplay and best original score.

Hollywood veteran Robert De Niro collected a lifetime achievement award, but it was Michael Douglas that got the warmest welcome as he came onstage to present the night's final award.

The Globes were hosted by comedian Ricky Gervais, who made jokes at the expense of Charlie Sheen, Hugh Hefner, Heather Mills and Bruce Willis, to name a few.

It was his second time presenting the awards.

Winners of Golden Globe accolades are often also tipped to win at the Academy Awards, which are to be held on 27 February.
