Mel Gibson has been charged with drink driving and having an open bottle of tequila in his car.
Gibson, 50, was formally charged yesterday (02.08.06) five days after being stopped by police in Malibu for speeding.
If convicted, the 'Signs' actor - who was driving at 87mph - could face up to six months in jail.
After being stopped by police, Gibson released a drunken tirade of anti-Semitic abuse.
He is believed to have said: "The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world."
Meanwhile, TV producer Merv Adelson took out an advert in yesterday's Los Angeles Times newspaper blasting movie bosses for not condemning Gibson's actions.
It read: "Let's make ourselves proud and NOT support this JERK in any way, just because he's a so called 'star'."
Adelson is the co-founder of Lorimar Productions, which produced hit TV show 'The Waltons'.
