46-year-old Matthew Moore, a Los Angeles California based man who is openly gay, is suing a hospital after finding out that his sexual orientation was listed as “suffering” from the “chronic condition” of “homosexual behaviour” in his medical records.
The legal steps against physician Dr Elaine Jones, the Torrance Health Association, and the Torrance Memorial Physicians Network, was taken after Mr Moore failed to get the listing removed from his medical records after a year of trying.
He told NBC: "It was infuriating. It was painful. It was another attempt by this doctor and this medical group to impose their agenda of discrimination and hate on to a gay patient."
Meanwhile, the health network claimed that the medical records have been corrected, blaming the gaffe on human error. However, Torrance Memorial Physicians Network said complex software was at fault.
Mr Moore hopes that the move will end sexual discrimination. He said: "I don’t want any gay, lesbian, transgender or bisexual ever to hear from a doctor that their normal and healthy sexuality is anything other than that.”
