Following news that Samsung’s sales are slowing down, the South Korean firm has unveiled a new product – Galaxy Gear Smartwatch, a partner device reliant that comes with a colour screen and it can be used for voice calls and in running apps.
However, analysts say that consumers may find the new product, which is more expensive compared to similar products from Sony, less appealing.
Chris Green, principal technology analyst at the consultancy Davies Murphy Group, said: "The introduction of the Galaxy smartwatch comes as no surprise to the industry, which has been expecting Samsung to beat the likes of Apple - as well as watch makers and other consumer electronics companies - to market.”
"Consumers might be a bit disappointed to find that the smartwatch is a partner device reliant on being paired with a Samsung Android smartphone or tablet, rather than being the completely autonomous device media and communications device many consumers were expecting and hoping for."
The Galaxy watch is expected to be sold for £192; making it more expensive compared to similar Sony product, which costs £120.
