Ellie Simmonds’ triumphant start to the games has her swimming in medals, with her gold in S6 400m freestyle from Saturday and Monday’s win in the SM6 200m individual medley.
Simmonds, who is only 17 years old, is on track for gold in the S6 50m free final after coming third in Tuesday’s heats, where she finished with a personal best time of 36.45.
She came in closely behind Mirjam de Koning-Peper, of Holland, whose strong strokes gave her a winning time of 35.05. America's Victoria Arlen took second place.
The teen was watched by PM David Cameron on Tuesday as she collected her second gold by going head to head with Verena Schott, Germany, in the final spat of the race.
The star told The Guardian how great the support is on the whole, saying it “is amazing not just for me but for getting the Paralympics out there.”
She said: “Hopefully people out there will get inspired by us and get into sport. It's great that people are watching the Paralympics.”
Simmonds touched people’s hearts with her reaction to her 400m freestyle win on Saturday night, where she outswam American rival Victoria Arlen. But the Aquatics Centre hadn’t seen the end of her success story.
Simmonds, who has a form of dwarfism, has helped Paralympic Team GB on their way to achieve a target of 103 medals, as GB currently sit second on the medal table.
