Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has previously vowed to “wipe out Twitter” after users allegedly spread allegations of corruption just before the election. He quickly took down the entire site from the nation.
Now, it has emerged that YouTube suffered the same fate in the country after it was blocked following an alleged leaks of high-level talks regarding Syria were uploaded to the site. The move comes a day after Turkey courts ordered that a ban of Twitter be lifted.
Meanwhile, the National Telecoms Authority said that it has taken an “administrative measure” against the site. It also examined the videos that were uploaded to YouTube and said that they did not come from the extremely confidential meeting contrary that the government previously claimed.
Days before preliminary polls are scheduled to decide on the future of the current government, scandals against Erdogan have emerged that seemed to indicate massive corruption.
While opposition leaders said that Erdogan’s desperate bid to hang on to power after three successive election victories poses risks that will lead to Turkey getting back into another period of dictatorship, Erdogan said that there is an “evil alliance” plotting against him.
