PCS in Wales is going on strike due to a variety of concerns, including wages. With the worries over the economy during the past year, it’s natural to be concerned over our own financial status and to ensure that we are being treated fairly. Here are a few ways that we can work to improve our financial status in legitimate and responsible ways:
- Promotions-the job market is tight, so you might not be able to work up into a promotion at your existing job. That puts your financial status in the “stagnant” category. Instead, look for promotions with other companies, or try searching online for jobs that can be used to supplement income.
- Part-time job-in addition to your normal work, you might need to consider working an additional part time job if your financial status is in dire straits. This may only need to be a temporary situation, but could help you out of a financial pickle.
- Savings-if you’re able to put a bit into savings, get the best interest rate you can find and keep depositing as much as possible so that the interest can work to accumulate more money for you. Most regular savings accounts have nearly nonexistent interest rates, so you might want to consider something like a Cash ISA that can offer better interest rates, but guarantees you’ll get at least what you deposited, unlike a Stocks and Shares ISA. If your financial status is difficult now, it means just one minor unexpected occurrence can turn your situation into an even more problematic one.
- Minimizing-a good way to try and improve financial status within a smaller amount of time is to go through all your household items to find out which ones you actually need, and which items you can part with. You could sell the items online, place local ads, or try thrift of pawn shop.
