As the mania for comic adaptations continues "The Fantastic Four" is heading for the big screen.

Tim Story is being lined up to direct the feature, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The comic originally told the story of four astronauts bombarded by cosmic rays. The four develop special powers as a result: Reed Richards becomes the bendy Mr Fantastic; Susan Storm becomes able to turn herself invisible; Johnny, Susan's brother, becomes the Human Torch; and Benjamin Grimm gains Hulk-like strength as the Thing.

The comic's creator Stan Lee will be the movie's executive producer according to reports.

When it first was published in 1962 the comic was billed as "the world's greatest comic magazine," the film will be set in the present day.
